The South by Southwest® (SXSW®) Conference was held this week in Austin, Texas.

Founded in 1987 in Austin, Texas, SXSW’s conferences and music festivals are known worldwide for bringing together visionaries and professionals from the interactive, film, and music industries.

To quote their 2018 conference website, “SXSW proves that the most unexpected discoveries happen when diverse topics and people come together.”

Two of the most popular and compelling speakers at this year’s event were Melinda Gates, Founder & Co-Chair, of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla.

Gates’ presentation, entitled The Company We Keep, focused on the transformation, or lack thereof, of the American Workplace. She also led a panel discussion about modern technologies, new business models, and new social movements moment that are building the first workplace in history that truly works for everyone.

Elon Musk surprised attendees twice, making an unexpected appearance during a Q&A session with the cast of HBO’s Westworld and again two days later, during a special Q&A session

Musk shared his thoughts on everything from space travel to deep earth boring, AI, Mars, and business. Oh, and don’t miss the Dad joke at the end.

Enjoy!
