North Idaho’s Technology Moment Comes Into Focus

On October 21, 2026, the Idaho Technology Council brought iTECH Summit Inland Northwest to the region for the first time, facilitated locally by the Coeur d’Alene Regional Chamber and Intermax. Nearly 200 people packed the event, with strong participation continuing into afternoon visits to North Idaho College and Hagadone Technologies.

Intermax served as premier sponsor, creating an opportunity for customers, prospects, and other community leaders to connect with some of the people shaping the region’s technology economy.

Intermax founder Steve Meyer helped put that opportunity in perspective by sharing findings from the 2026 Idaho Technology Council Tech Economy Report.

North Idaho Is Part of a Much Larger Technology Economy

The report makes a striking point: technology is no longer a niche industry in Idaho.

According to the 2026 Idaho Technology Council Tech Economy Report, 32% of Idaho’s workforce, or 320,137 workers, works in technology or a technology-adjacent industry. That workforce grew 20% between 2020 and 2025.

Investment activity is significant as well. Idaho recorded 215 disclosed deals in 2025, up 38.7% from 2024, representing more than $8 billion in disclosed capital. Northern Idaho accounted for 31 deals, second only to Southwestern Idaho, with Kootenai County alone accounting for 20.

The report describes North Idaho as one point in Idaho’s “Triangle of Innovation,” connecting North Idaho’s AI and robotics research with the Treasure Valley’s semiconductor and software ecosystem and Eastern Idaho’s nuclear and clean-energy complex.

Meet Some of the Technology Companies Building Here

iTECH helped make those economic statistics tangible.

The event brought established organizations together with a growing group of regional entrepreneurs and technology companies. The stage included people from The Ryzosphere, Haiven, Tensora, GuideTime, Ignitium, and Breaking Alpha.

They joined organizations such as ALTEK, MacKay Manufacturing and Northwest Specialty Hospital, along with educational resources including North Idaho College and the University of Idaho Coeur d’Alene. The iTECH program also included the IDEA² Lightning Pitch Showcase, giving entrepreneurs an opportunity to present business ideas before a live audience.

That mix matters. North Idaho’s technology story isn’t solely about attracting technology companies. It is also about creating an environment where entrepreneurs, established employers, educational institutions, mentors, and investors can find one another.

AI Connects the Tech Economy to Everyday North Idaho Businesses

One topic connected that technology ecosystem directly to organizations of every size: artificial intelligence.

AI ran throughout the iTECH program, including conversations about AI leadership and the future of work and an “AI Innovators You Should Know” panel focused on regional entrepreneurs building AI companies.

But AI adoption is not limited to startups or technology companies.

Intermax’s State of AI for Local Business survey of 124 North Idaho organizations found 41% already using AI in daily operations and another 33% experimenting with or piloting AI tools. Combined, that means 74% are already actively engaging with AI.

The momentum appears likely to continue: 61% said they plan to move forward with AI within six months. At the same time, businesses identified trust and accuracy, privacy and security, and workforce readiness among the barriers they face. 81% said technology infrastructure is critical or important.

Those findings help connect the two sides of the iTECH story. North Idaho has entrepreneurs developing new technology, but it also has established businesses figuring out how to put technologies such as AI to work securely and productively.

Building North Idaho’s On-Ramp to Innovation

Perhaps the strongest takeaway from iTECH was how many pieces of an innovation ecosystem are now present in the region.

There are startups and established technology companies. There is investment activity. There are businesses actively adopting new technologies. North Idaho College and the University of Idaho provide educational resources, while private industry and experienced mentors add additional paths for entrepreneurs and organizations trying to turn ideas into practical results.

Bringing those communities together was central to the Chamber and Intermax helping bring iTECH to North Idaho.

For local businesses, that means the technology economy isn’t something happening somewhere else. The companies, talent, infrastructure, and expertise needed to participate are increasingly available here.
